KCU Hosts Three-Day Missions Emphasis Event, ICOM at KCU

News

Grayson, KY – Kentucky Christian University (KCU) recently hosted a three-day missions emphasis event, ICOM at KCU, providing students with a unique opportunity to learn about missions firsthand. The event, held in September, featured a lineup of esteemed speakers and interactive activities aimed at promoting interest in missions and the upcoming International Conference on Missions (ICOM) in Oklahoma City.

Stephanie Garman Freed, Co-Founder of Rapha International and President of the 2023 ICOM, delivered an inspiring speech during chapel. Joining her were David Empson, ICOM Executive Director, Kevin Dooley from the Center for Global Business, Tim Stapleton from Team Expansion, Ellie Beers from PROEM, and Shawn Splechter from Feed The Crave, who shared their expertise and passion for missions.

The Emma Qualls Student Lounge was transformed into an exhibit hall, where students had the opportunity to engage with missionaries at their booths. This interactive setup allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and rewards of missionary work, fostering a sense of connection and inspiration.

To further facilitate interaction, a bonfire was organized, complete with games, s’mores, and a time of worship. This informal gathering provided a relaxed atmosphere for students and missionaries to engage in meaningful conversations and forge connections that could potentially shape their future involvement in missions.

The ICOM at KCU event served as a precursor to the annual ICOM conference, scheduled to take place in Oklahoma City from November 16-18. By hosting this event, KCU aimed to generate excitement and interest among students, encouraging them to participate in the upcoming conference and explore the world of missions.

Investment of Time, Prayer, and Love

“I’ll never forget how the Bible and Ministry professors at KCU cared about me as a person. They didn’t just see me
as a student number. They invested time, prayer, and love into my life and my ministry, and I’m eternally thankful
for their influence.”

Sean Plank, Class of 2010
