Coming to KCU was a big next step for me. Since I live farther away from home, I don’t get the chance to go home as often as others on campus who live closer. One of my biggest fears about making this move was feeling homesick, which I can honestly say I haven’t experienced during my three years at KCU. I was lucky enough to come here and immediately have a community through the volleyball team, but I quickly found that the entire KCU community made the campus feel warm and welcoming. KCU offers plenty of ways to build a community for yourself through your classes and campus life groups, which give you the chance to meet others and, in a way, develop a family here on campus.
When I walked onto campus, I was met by some of the most welcoming people, which made the transition so much easier. I have always been a very introverted person and have found it difficult to make friends and branch out of my comfort zone, but almost every person I met on campus changed that. KCU has a community unlike any other place I visited during my college search. I know for a fact that it is because almost everyone who comes here is here for the same reason: to grow in their relationship with Christ, allow Him to shine His light through them, and make an impact on others.
This made me feel so welcome and less nervous about being far from my home and support system. I have never felt alone since walking onto this campus. The staff and students provide you with the comfort and support of a family. They give you a new support system as a family under Christ. You will never be alone in this community, and that is something I have always found so comforting.
I am now in my third year at KCU and couldn’t imagine myself at any other school. I have made a family here, and KCU truly has become a home away from home. I am forever grateful for all the people God has placed in my life through this campus. They have provided me with so much reassurance while being away from everything I had ever known and have given me a support system through my teammates and school.
When you make the decision to walk onto this campus, I encourage you to branch out and find the people who can become your KCU family. Let their light shine in your life because, as I have said before, you will never feel alone in this community. There will always be people who share the same fears about starting a new chapter in life and who can stand beside you as you go on that journey together.
