My major at Kentucky Christian University is Youth and Family Ministry. Youth ministry can be explained as teaching and spreading the Word of God to children and youth. I chose this major because it is something that I think is very important in today’s society. I always knew I wanted to do ministry of some kind, and youth ministry is where I feel most called to serve. Teaching and training up the youth to follow Christ with all their hearts is something that I want to encourage young people to pursue.
This summer, I was able to help serve with the KCU camp teams, and this was an amazing experience and awesome way to see how God has called me to do exactly what I was able to experience this summer. To see the growth and transformation of the students and their desire for Christ in their lives was so rewarding, and refreshing to see that youth desire a relationship with the Lord.
That ministry experience over the summer revealed to me the importance of students’ faith being taken seriously and how they should develop this relationship with the Lord as soon as they can. With this foundation built upon the truth of the Gospel, it will set students up to succeed in their future and to have a strong faith to remain in the Lord in a sinful world. Personally, some of the most challenging parts of my walk with the Lord were around middle and high school ages, and this is another reason why I think youth ministry is so important: to be able to help lead and guide students through difficult seasons of their lives as they develop their faith.
Ultimately, whatever area of youth ministry I end up in, I want to prioritize Christ while teaching and training the next generation of believers. We are called to spread the gospel and make disciples of all nations, and this is my field of ministry where I feel called to serve, and I pray God opens up opportunities for me to use whatever I have to honor the Lord above all.
