Grayson, KY — 04/22/2026 — Kentucky Christian University (KCU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Ferguson as its new Director of Alumni and Church Relations, a strategic leadership role designed to strengthen the University’s connection to its alumni and deepen its partnerships with churches across the region and beyond.
A 1983 graduate of KCU, Ferguson returns to his alma mater with decades of ministry leadership, relationship development, and advancement experience. His appointment reflects KCU’s continued commitment to expanding its mission of Christ-centered higher education through meaningful engagement with the local church.
In this role, Ferguson will serve as the University’s primary relationship strategist, building a dynamic network of alumni and church partners who will support student enrollment, mentorship opportunities, ministry collaboration, and philanthropic engagement.
Ferguson brings a distinguished background in ministry and development, having most recently served as Lead Pastor at Southport Heights Christian Church, where he led significant church growth and major giving initiatives. His prior experience includes leadership roles in advancement and development at Christian Children’s Home of Ohio, where he oversaw fundraising, marketing, and donor engagement efforts.
“Steve Ferguson embodies the heart and mission of Kentucky Christian University,” said Dr. Terry Allcorn, President of KCU. “His deep love for the local church, his proven leadership in ministry and advancement, and his lifelong connection to KCU uniquely position him to help us expand our reach and impact. As we continue to grow initiatives like KCU Ascend and strengthen our ties to churches, Steve will play a vital role in advancing our mission for the good of the Cause.”
Tracey Hansen, Chairman of the KCU Board of Trustees, added:
“Steve’s appointment represents exactly the kind of Christ-centered leadership that defines Kentucky Christian University. He understands the vital connection between the local church and Christian higher education, and he brings both the relational credibility and the Kingdom-minded vision needed to strengthen that bond. We are confident that his leadership will inspire deeper engagement among our alumni and church partners and help extend KCU’s impact for generations to come.”
Ferguson expressed enthusiasm about returning to KCU alongside his wife, Joan, who has faithfully served in ministry with him for over four decades.
“Kentucky Christian University has always held a special place in my heart,” said Ferguson. “Joan and I have devoted our lives to ministry, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve together in this new season at KCU. We believe deeply in the mission of Christ-centered education and the power of the local church. We look forward to building meaningful relationships with alumni and churches that will help advance the Kingdom and invest in the next generation of Christian leaders.”
Ferguson’s wife, Joan Ferguson, has been his lifelong ministry partner, supporting and serving alongside him throughout his pastoral and leadership career. Together, they bring a shared passion for the Church and a commitment to discipleship, relationship-building, and service that aligns closely with KCU’s mission.
The Director of Alumni and Church Relations position plays a central role in KCU’s strategic vision, including the “For the Good of the Cause” initiative, by extending the University’s presence into churches, communities, and digital spaces while fostering lifelong connections with alumni.
Ferguson’s appointment underscores KCU’s commitment to cultivating a Christ-centered network of churches and alumni who actively support the University’s mission through mentorship, enrollment pathways, and ongoing engagement.
