POSITION SUMMARY
The KCU Bus driver will provide transportation for University-sponsored activities and support the facilities department with various responsibilities when not on the road.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Bus Driver reports administratively to the Director of Facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class.
- Plan and/or assist in planning bus routes, mapping and directions for scheduled trips.
- Must be able to perform detailed pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Must be able to perform minor vehicle repairs.
- Must be able to assist in loading students, luggage, and equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. or more as needed.
- Must be able to provide and maintain a safe and courteous environment for passengers and vehicles.
- Must be able to perform and adhere to the regulations put forth by the D.O.T.
- Comply with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the KCU Staff Handbook.
- Perform additional duties as they are assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Must have a current CDL with passenger endorsement.
- Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as required.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines related to bus driving.
- Committed to safety measures while performing duties.
- Must have skill in reading, interpreting, and following equipment manuals and gauges.
- Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public.
- Must be insurable under the University insurance policy for driving.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Commercial Driver’s License
- Skills and knowledge required are normally acquired through completion of high school or equivalent.
- Experience in driving over the road (OTR) preferred but not required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, maps, and directions.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and present information in one-on-one and/or small group situations.
OTHER ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee will be required to sit for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, distant vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems related to bus driving and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to excessive noise levels. The employee will be required on occasion to stay in hotels or motels and/or other accommodations when specified.
