Position Description: Lead Minister

Reports To: Elders 

Position Status: Full-Time

Purpose of the Role: The Lead Minister is responsible for partnering with the eldership to advance the spiritual vitality and development of the congregation. This individual must possess a comprehensive understanding of the church’s mission, vision, values, and strategic framework, demonstrating the ability to effectively mobilize the congregation toward these guiding principles. In collaboration with the eldership, the Lead Minister provides pastoral care and ensures that all organizational practices are aligned with the church’s overarching purpose.

Key Responsibilities and Professional Duties

  1. Homiletics and Christian Education
  • Serve as the primary communicator for Sunday morning worship services.
  • Provide strategic leadership in the design and implementation of adult education programs, discipleship initiatives, and training in coordination with other ministry heads.
  1. Strategic Vision and Planning
  • Direct the strategic planning and execution of key ministerial and outreach initiatives.
  • Champion the church’s vision as a core member of the leadership team, ensuring all plans are realized through:
    • Facilitating transparent communication across all ministries to clarify and execute organizational goals.
    • Monitoring the “spiritual pulse” and general health of the membership.
    • Ensuring that human resources (staffing), facilities, and programming are optimized to meet strategic targets.
  1. Staff Leadership and Organizational Development
  • Provide coordination and mentorship for staff and volunteers within their respective ministry areas by:
    • Identifying development and training opportunities.
    • Contributing expert insights to the leadership team regarding the development of new ministry/outreach areas.
    • Maintaining efficient and professional lines of communication at all times.
  1. Administrative Oversight and Pastoral Care
  • Oversee daily operations in conjunction with the staff and leadership team to ensure the timely fulfillment of objectives.
  • Manage the pastoral care needs of the congregation, including hospital and home visitations and pastoral counseling, while supporting family life, championing life groups, engaging young professionals, and fostering meaningful community involvement. 
  • Offer support to the Office Manager to ensure the effective functioning of administrative and front-office operations.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team on the creation and advancement of institutional policies and procedures.
  1. Performance Evaluation and Accountability
  • Prepare comprehensive annual reports detailing ministry achievements, activities, and progress toward goals.
  • Participate in annual performance evaluations and compensation reviews conducted by the leadership team.
