SUMMARY:

The Kentucky Christian University (KCU) Site Coordinator for the Prison Education Program (PEP) program at LSCC has primary responsibility for student services for students enrolled in KCU academic programs at LSCC.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

The KCU Site Coordinator for Little Sandy Correctional Complex reports administratively to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS AND SKILLS:

The KCU Site Coordinator is first and foremost a Christian of mature faith with the capacity to articulate his/her relationship with Jesus Christ clearly and must be in agreement with KCU Covenant of Faith. The Site Coordinator is committed to advancing the mission of KCU while facilitating students success and is able to monitor and measure outcomes for continued program success.

Purpose:

Full-time staff person to interact regularly with students and LSCC personnel.  This position will be the primary coordinator for all areas related to student services.  This person will work with all areas on the main campus as needed to serve the students at LSCC.

Work Locations:

  • At a minimum of 3 to 4 days a week at Little Sandy Correctional Complex.
  • Other location to be determined later

Reports to:

  • Vice President of Academic Affairs

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field.
  • Experience in student affairs/corrections or other similar relatable experiences.

Duties:

  • Recruitment
    • Create and implement a recruitment plan from inquiry to enrollment.
      • Provide announcements and distribute literature in appropriate areas as designated by LSCC staff.
  • Admissions and Records
    • Develop and implement a communication plan with potential and current students.
    • Work with Admissions and Enrollment to determine the application process
    • Determine the need for individual placement testing and give as required.
    • Implement and organize orientation. Invite appropriate university personnel as needed.
    • Obtained FERPA release from each student.
    • Transcript processing
      • Provide unofficial transcript at request/provide one free official transcript upon appropriate transcript request.
      • Work with the registrar to create a transcript request process.
    • Advising
      • Provide academic advising to students.
      • Provide transfer assistance.
      • Create academic schedules for students.
  • Financial aid and scholarship support
    • Assist students with completing the FAFSA and other necessary financial aid documents.
    • Work with the director of financial aid to determine the process for providing financial aid services.
    • Collaborate with the university’s business office regarding student billing issues.
  • Other areas
    • Library services
      • Serve as a liaison between the university and LSCC librarians as needed.
    • Tutoring Services
      • Work with LSCC to discuss and implement a peer tutoring program.
      • Explore the possibility of bringing tutors to the prison as needed.
    • Career Counseling
      • Provide post and pre-release career counseling for students
    • Other duties
      • Perform the role of academic and student services liaison between students, LSCC, and KCU.
      • Facilitate student issues with appropriate prison and university personnel.
      • Plan a yearly graduation ceremony.
      • Assist with providing textbooks and supplies as needed.
      • Attend/complete all required KCU/LSCC trainings.
      • Assist in providing required reports/information related to enrollment, retention, success, etc.
      • Establish and maintain relationships with correctional administration, re-entry services, potential employers, transfer institutions and other internal/external groups to provide support to students.
      • Lead the development of promotional materials, education materials and online content.
      • Other duties as assigned
