Position Summary

The Cashier / Dining Room Steward is responsible for providing excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and guests while operating the cash register and maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming dining environment. This position assists with food service operations, cash handling, sanitation, and dining room upkeep to ensure a positive dining experience for the university community.

Cashier Responsibilities

  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Accurately process cash, credit card, meal plan, and other dining transactions.
  • Balance cash drawer and maintain accountability for all transactions.
  • Answer customer questions regarding menu items, meal plans, and dining services.
  • Assist with stocking beverages, condiments, utensils, and other service items.
  • Follow Pioneers’ cash-handling policies and procedures.
  • Report discrepancies or customer concerns to the supervisor.

Dining Room Steward Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of dining room areas, including tables, chairs, counters, beverage stations, and serving areas.
  • Remove trays, dishes, and trash from dining areas promptly.
  • Replenish supplies such as napkins, utensils, cups, and condiments.
  • Assist with dishwashing and kitchen clean-up as needed.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Help prepare dining areas for special events, meetings, and university functions.
  • Monitor dining room conditions and address cleanliness issues proactively.
  • Maintain a safe environment for customers and staff.

General Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all members of the university community.
  • Follow university policies and Dining Services procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with other Dining Services staff.
  • Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic math and cash-handling skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Preferred

  • Previous cashier, food service, or customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Conditions of Employment

  • $11/ hour Mondays  – Fridays 9 AM – 2 PM with a meal provided
