Job Description: YOUTH AND FAMILY LIFE MINISTER

 

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION:

_________________________as a minister for this congregation, shall render faithful service to the congregation as an evangelist, and a congregational leader whose responsibility is, along with the Eldership and other ministers of the church, to equip other Christians “unto the work of ministry for building up the body of Christ”.

 

You shall exercise and illustrate the Christian life in your relationships with the lost, the Christian community, and your own family, to the best of your ability – as should all Christians.

The congregation affirms its belief in the New Testament pattern of ministry, as set forth particularly in the book of Acts and letters known as 2 Corinthians, Ephesians, 1 and 2 Timothy, and Titus.

Said minister shall provide Bible-based, Christ-centered teaching, lessons, and program suggestions for the regular services of the congregation.

JOB SUMMARY: 

Organize, lead, equip and evaluate a youth and family life program; for birth-12th grade and families that will facilitate making fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Provide leadership, vision, and organization to our family life ministry.

  1. A disciple of Jesus Christ, who walks with God, lives the word, contributes to the work, and impacts the world.
  2. A model of obedience, growth and authenticity as presented in the Scriptures.
  3. Competent in collaborating with people, self-disciplined, and positive in attitude.

Eager to grow in ministry and in Christ.

  1. Integrity in words and actions. A person who keeps their word and lives their life.

 

GOALS:

Youth Ministry

  1. Support the mission statement of First Christian Church: “Loving and Living Like Jesus.”
  2. Development of a leadership team that is committed to a quality Youth Ministry and will actively seek to build and maintain a strong program for our youth.
  3. Equip the youth workers for ministry and evangelism.
  4. Provide training, support, and encouragement to all youth workers on a regular on-going basis.
  5. Develop an ongoing process of evaluation, needs assessment, and recruiting
  6. Implement and utilize a process for screening youth workers.

Family Life Ministry

  1. Develop a Family Life Ministry leadership team.
  2. Provide educational opportunities to encourage, train, and educate the congregation to deal with the various developmental stages of life.
  3. Plan special events with helpful speakers that will help the family and reach out to the community.
  4. Lead the church to be more family friendly and sensitive to the needs of family.
  5. Provide pastoral family counseling and develop a referral network of various helping agencies.

EXPECTATIONS:

You will grow personally (i.e., books, seminars, classes, counseling). Youth

ministry will grow spiritually and numerically.

You will develop other leaders around you.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

All staff members are to be supervised by the Senior Minister. However, this position is accountable to the Eldership of First Christian Church.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee and staff all Children’s Sunday School, Children’s Church, and Youth Groups.
  2. Develop and oversee a Family Ministry team.
  3. Develop and oversee a Youth Ministry team.
  4. Build relationships with Youth by attending events in which they are participating and connection with families.
  5. Attendance at the following:
    • All Worship Services (when not leading a Children’s Class)
    • Youth Ministry Meetings
    • “All Church” events (i.e., Potluck, Faith Promise)
    • Long Range Planning Sessions
    • Staff Meetings and Retreats
  6. Provide leadership and vision for the ministries you are involved in. In addition, prepare a program that is in line with the overall mission of the church.
  7. Organize and oversee the family life ministry offerings to provide timely and relevant learning opportunities.
  8. Share Pastoral calling duties with the Elders and other Staff members as directed.

EVALUATIONS:

The Elders will evaluate this position on a yearly basis.

OFFICE HOURS:

Regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30-4:30. Paid staff will be expected to be in the office for four out of those 5 days. You will need to keep regular morning hours, while afternoons are more flexible.

Expectations of time spent between Youth and Family Life Ministry is:

75% Youth Ministry

25% Family Life Ministry
