SUMMARY:

The Director of Men’s Services supports the mission of the Student Services Department which is to create and maintain a living and learning environment that will enhance the potential for spiritual, social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of students so they can become Christian leaders and servants in the church and in professions throughout the world.  The Director coordinates all facets of residence hall life.

This is a 10-month position paid semi-monthly over 12 months.  The actual salary of $15,000.00 also includes: a tuition scholarship ranging from $24,400 (maximum 18 hrs. undergrad per semester) or $5,850 (maximum 9 hrs. grad per semester), $5,820 in apartment rental, $4,350 in meals, $1,920 for utilities, and $12,480 for a single health plan offered.    This makes a potential annual salary of $63,970 for an undergraduate student hire or $45,420 for a graduate student.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: 

The Director of Men’s Services reports to the Vice President of Student Services and works closely with other members of the Student Services staff.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  3. The successful candidate shall recognize and support the University’s affiliation with the Stone-Campbell tradition (Church of Christ/Christian Church).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Men’s Services has the following responsibilities and authorities:

  1. Coordinate all aspects of residence halls for males, including but not limited to the supervision of male Resident Assistants; general upkeep of the residence halls for males, proactive assessment of the maintenance needs of their assigned halls; monitor rule infractions of students living in their assigned residence halls; and plan and implement programs in their halls.
  2.  Maintain a file of emergency medical cards for all male students living in the residence halls.
  3.  Assist in both check-ins and check-outs of students in the residence halls.
  4. Conduct bi-monthly room checks.
  5. Clearly and concisely communicate KCU rules and consequences to students.
  6. Coordinate and/or provide transportation for sick and injured residents to local doctors, hospital and/or counseling service.
  7. Participate in RA training week and in new student orientation (Welcome Weekend).
  8. Be accessible during the evening hours and “on duty” 3 weekends each month and be the last person to leave the halls on holidays and between semesters.
  9. Maintain and comply with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the KCU Staff Handbook.
  10. Additional duties that may be required.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and/or abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  1. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small and large group situations.
  2. Ability to define problems, evaluate and make independent decisions based on experience and knowledge regarding supervision and discipline.
  3. Ability to use computer technology at an elementary to intermediate level.
  4. Sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all electronic and computer equipment and manually complete paperwork, such as signing completed reports.
  5. Ability to listen and hear students speak about emotional, academic, spiritual and social issues and concerns.
  6. Ability to sit and/or stand and continuously perform essential job functions for a nine (9) hour day, with an hour lunch break.
  7. Ability to grasp and lift or otherwise move goods weighing up to 25 pounds. At times, folders and other records must be filed.
  8. Ability to learn and perform essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision, within three (3) months of initial employment.
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  10. Ability to work cooperatively within the Student Services Department.

 

OTHER ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

Current institutional operations and building designs ordinarily require the individual to reach, bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform similar physical functions while doing the work of an administrative assistant.  All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.

 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  1. Education:  A non-traditional student working on a bachelor’s degree will be considered.  See payment package for maximum hours covered under Conditions of Employment #1.
  2. Experience: Some experience in student personnel/services, higher education, secondary education or ministry is preferred.   Work experience will be considered on an individual basis.
  1. Values: The Director of Men’s Services must be sympathetic with the mission and purpose of Kentucky Christian University and enthusiastically support the University’s core values. The Director must be competent, confidential, caring and professional with the ability to encourage students in their growth as Christians.  The Director must understand the developmental state and needs of both traditional (18-22) and nontraditional age students.
