Summary: 

The Dean of the School of Business has primary leadership responsibility for the School of Business.

Reporting Relationship:

The Dean of the School of Business reports administratively to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.  The Dean provides direct supervision for the faculty and other personnel of the School.

Essential Characteristics and Skills:

The Dean of the School of Business is, first and foremost, a Christian of mature faith with the capacity to clearly articulate his/her relationship with Jesus Christ. The Dean is committed to advancing the mission of KCU as a leader in the School of Business and is able to clearly demonstrate the role of ministry in business. The Dean will be able to manage a team and effectively monitor and measure outcomes for continued success while also being approachable by students, faculty, and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Dean of the School of Business has the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership to the School of Business.
  2. Coordinate the operations of the School of Business.
  3. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the administration of the University, other divisions and departments within the University, related facilities, and the community.
  4. Participate in the preparation and administration of the School of Business budget.
  5. Screen and recommend candidates for faculty appointment, retention, and promotion.
  6. Develop and implement program policies.
  7. Facilitate continuing academic and professional development for the business faculty.
  8. Ensure the business faculty shall be adequate in number and composition to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the School of Business and its curriculum in relation to the stated purpose, philosophy, objectives, number of classes, and students admitted annually.
  9. Mentor School of Business faculty to enhance their teaching role.
  10. Represent the School of Business on the Academic Council and other committees.
  11. Represent the University as a spokesperson to the various publics to which it addresses itself, and provide such information as may be necessary to assure a clear understanding of the state of the School of Business, its needs, and its mission.
  12. Ensure that all faculty and staff positions within the School of Business are filled with qualified individuals for both present and future needs.
  13. Promote coordination of the strategic planning efforts as they relate to the School of Business.
  14. Ensure that the School of Business complies with all Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges regulations and standards of accreditation.
  15. Represent the School of Business and provide leadership within the larger academic community and professional associations.
  16. Engage the tristate business community as a leader in support of economic development.
  17. Participate in institutional advancement activities as requested by the Office of Advancement related to annual fundraising.
  18. Supervise, develop, and review the performance of those individuals who report to the Dean of the School of Business.
  19. Take an active leadership role in the recruitment and retention of School of Business students. This includes personal involvement as well as ensuring appropriate levels of involvement by School of Business faculty members.
  20. Maintain and comply with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the KCU Faculty Handbook.
  21. Additional duties that may be required or assigned.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  1. Education: The Dean of the School of Business will hold an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in a discipline related to the educational programs of the School of Business. ABD candidates and those with a related master’s degree and relevant industry experience in pursuit of a doctorate may be considered.
  2. Experience:  The Dean must have a working knowledge of current business practices, principles, and standards as evidenced through business/professional experience. The ideal candidate will bring preparation through education and experience that demonstrate one’s ability to both lead the School of Business and provide exceptional instruction to students enrolled in the School’s classes. In addition to business/professional experience, the Dean must have experience working in diverse settings and be student-centered. The Dean must have the ability to build programs and recruit students as well as establish a network of internship opportunities for business majors.  The preferred candidate will have experience in programmatic accreditation for business programs.  The preferred candidate will also be an active member of an independent Christian Church or Church of Christ.
  3. Values: The Dean of the School of Business must be sympathetic with the mission and purpose of Kentucky Christian University and enthusiastically support the University’s core values. The Dean must be a self-starter who inspires excellence in others by his/her own work ethic. The Dean of the School of Business must accept ownership of her/his area of responsibility and provide leadership throughout the University community.
