Summary:

The Head Cheer Coach provides leadership for all aspects of the Cheer program at KCU. The head coach will be a mature Christian leader committed to using cheer as a tool to advance the University’s Christ-centered mission; develop

student-athletes from academic, spiritual, and educational perspectives; and establish a culture of performance excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. The Head Cheer Coach will advance the University’s mission to educate students for Christian leadership and service in the church and professions throughout the world. The head coach must demonstrate an overarching passion for this mission and uphold it as a standard across all University cheer operations.
  2. As a highly visible representative of the University, the Head Cheer Coach will represent the University in a Christ-honoring and professional manner, while also ensuring that others associated with the program do likewise.
  3. The Head Cheer Coach will actively serve as a Christian mentor to student-athletes.

  5. The Head Cheer Coach will supervise all part-time coaching staff (as well as the selection of assistant coaches) and support personnel.

Recruitment strategies and goals will reflect a bias toward recruiting players from Kentucky and extending to KCU’s traditional “market” of contiguous states and constituent churches.
  3. The Head Cheer Coach must be highly communicative with prospective students, families, and the overall campus Therefore, the Head Cheer Coach will attend University functions and events within the scope of marketing and as the face of the Cheer program.

  5. The Head Cheer Coach will ensure program integrity in compliance with the requirements of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and the River States Conference of the NAIA.
  6. The Head Cheer Coach is responsible for communicating clearly and directly with the Athletic Director.
  7. The Head Cheer Coach is responsible for updating and maintaining a scholarship basis/discount rate (provided by the Athletic Director) for their team in an organized, clear manner.
  8. The Head Cheer Coach is accountable for maintaining roster numbers at the Athletic Department’s desired amount per academic year (the Athletic Director will provide the amount).

The following requirements will be used when determining the person to fill the position of head coach:

  1. The head coach will demonstrate spiritual maturity and a history of Christian leadership and will enthusiastically use cheer as a tool to foster spiritual growth in student-athletes.
  2. The head coach must enthusiastically support the mission and vision of Kentucky Christian University and its core values.
  3. The head coach serves as a twelve-month employee and is eligible for all university benefits (i.e., health insurance, vacation, etc.).

OTHER ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

Current KCU operations and building design ordinarily require the individual to reach, bend, lift, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform similar physical functions while doing the work of a Head Coach (e.g., looking for items, carrying equipment and other items, loading the printer, stacking boxes, or searching the sports Building and/or offices). All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without a significant risk of injury, or to demonstrate otherwise or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  1. Education: A master’s degree is preferred, and a high school diploma is
  2. Experience: At least three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  3. Values: The Head Coach must be sympathetic with the mission and purpose of Kentucky Christian University and enthusiastically support the University’s core values. The Head Coach must be a self-starter who inspires excellence in others by their own work ethic. The Head Coach must accept ownership of their area of responsibility and provide leadership throughout the University community as it relates to the nature, function, and scope of the Cheer program

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. The successful candidate must be adherent to the Stone-Campbell Restoration tradition (e.g., Christian Church and/or Churches of Christ).
  2. Full-time salary Exempt Hours: M-F 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (noon), 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM (some evening and weekend hours as needed for recruiting & coaching).
