Position Summary
The Next Gen Minister provides spiritual leadership, discipleship, and pastoral care for older youth (middle school/high school) and young adults (college age through early career/life stage). This role is responsible for building a Christ-centered ministry that helps students and young adults grow in faith, develop authentic community, and become active disciples of Jesus in the church, at home, in school, at work, and in everyday life.
The Next Gen Minister will create environments, programs, and relationships that engage the next generation through biblical teaching, mentoring, outreach, leadership development, and intergenerational connection within the life of the church.
Key Responsibilities
1. Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship
- Provide spiritual oversight for ministries serving older youth and young adults.
- Teach biblically sound, relevant, and engaging lessons rooted in Scripture.
- Develop a clear discipleship pathway that helps young people move from attendance to spiritual maturity and service.
- Encourage students and young adults to grow in prayer, worship, biblical literacy, and personal faith practices.
- Model a vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
2. Ministry Programming
- Plan, lead, and evaluate weekly gatherings, Bible studies, small groups, retreats, mission opportunities, and special events.
- Design age-appropriate ministry experiences for middle school students, high school students, college students, and young adults.
- Create welcoming environments that foster belonging, spiritual growth, and meaningful relationships.
- Coordinate seasonal events, camps, conferences, and outreach opportunities.
3. Relationship Building & Pastoral Care
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with students, young adults, and their families.
- Provide encouragement, mentoring, and pastoral care during key life stages and transitions.
- Maintain consistent presence in the lives of students and young adults through church events, community involvement, and personal connection.
- Partner with parents and guardians to support the spiritual development of youth.
- Help young adults stay connected to the church during transitions such as graduation, college, career entry, and family life changes.
4. Volunteer Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, equip, and encourage volunteers to serve effectively in youth and young adult ministry.
- Build a healthy volunteer culture focused on discipleship, safety, consistency, and relational ministry.
- Provide leadership development opportunities for students, young adults, and adult ministry leaders.
- Empower younger generations to serve in worship, missions, teaching, hospitality, and church leadership roles where appropriate.
5. Outreach & Engagement
- Develop strategies to reach unchurched and disconnected youth and young adults in the community.
- Foster an inviting and missional ministry culture that encourages evangelism, service, and community impact.
- Build bridges with local schools, colleges, and community organizations when appropriate.
- Encourage students and young adults to live as ambassadors of Christ in their everyday environments.
6. Collaboration & Church Integration
- Work closely with church staff and ministry leaders to align Next Gen ministry with the overall mission and vision of the church.
- Help connect youth and young adults to the broader life of the church through worship, service, discipleship, and intergenerational relationships.
- Participate in staff meetings, ministry planning, and church-wide events.
- Support smooth transitions between children’s ministry, youth ministry, and adult discipleship.
7. Administration & Safety
- Manage ministry calendars, communication, budgets, registrations, and follow-up processes.
- Maintain policies and procedures related to child/youth protection, safety, and volunteer screening.
- Track attendance, engagement, and ministry effectiveness for continual improvement.
- Communicate consistently with students, parents, volunteers, and church leadership.
Qualifications
- A clear and growing personal faith in Jesus Christ.
- Commitment to the mission, doctrine, and values of the Restoration Movement church.
- Demonstrated passion for discipling older youth and young adults.
- Experience in youth ministry, young adult ministry, discipleship, or related church leadership preferred.
- Strong biblical teaching, relational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to connect authentically with teenagers and young adults across diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational, communication, and team collaboration skills.
- Ability to recruit, lead, and develop volunteers.
- Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, biblical studies, education, or a related field preferred (or equivalent ministry experience).
