Student Organizations
Global Mission Awareness (GMA)
The purpose of the GMA is to promote mission awareness on campus and to raise money through the Faith Promise campaign to send to mission efforts around the world. We do this by organizing the Faith Promise Week events at the beginning of the year. Then, we keep the campus updated through the year on the progress of the giving and the missions we support. We aim to sponsor a missions night every two weeks during which we focus on a specific country or continent. We have different presentations and share appropriate music and food whenever we can. Fellowship is a large part of these meetings. There are eight officers on the committee, but the whole school is part of the program. Everyone is invited and welcome to share at all the events. Prayer is also a main focus of our time. We want His will, not ours, to be done.
SIFE
Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is an organization set up to promote the fundamentals and ideals of free enterprise to the campus, community, and region. Although seen as primarily a business organization, it has open membership to all KCU students. SIFE's main projects include a resume day for the campus and community and a rent-a-worker day where students are auctioned off to the highest bidder in return for a day's work.
Laos Protos
Laos Protos is the student social work group at KCU. Social work majors and minors are eligible to join Laos Protos. The mission of Laos Protos is to develop a responsible concern about the present and future development of Social Work professionals. As a group, we want to promote opportunities for members' social and spiritual growth, develop service projects that promote both Christian and Social work values, and provide opportunities for exposure to diversity and to different areas of social work. Our motto is I Peter 4: 10 "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."
Counseling Psychology Society (Kappa Psi Sigma)
Kappa Psi Sigma, also known as the Society, is led by Counseling Psychology majors. The Counseling Psychology faculty encourages all Counseling Psychology students to be active in this organization. Kappa Psi Sigma provides opportunities for extra curricular activities, spiritual development, and opportunities to be involved in human services.
Pi Chi Delta
Pi Chi Delta is an organization for all teacher education majors. The organization was designed to help unite teacher education majors with the professors of the education department. Through discussions and meetings we provide important information about the teacher education program requirements. We meet once a month to discuss various topics and hear presentations from student teachers. We do a semester project each fall and spring. This year's service project is a Professor's Night Out. Teacher education students watch children while the professors and their spouses can spend an evening together.
CMENC
CMENC (Collegiate Music Educators National Conference) is an organization dedicated to the promotion and advocation of music within our schools and communities. Membership is predominantly held by music education and music ministry majors. Members of this group meet bi-monthly to discuss pertinent topics regarding how to better teach students the history, appreciation, and concepts of music. Participation in this local collegiate chapter of MENC (Music Educators National Conference) also encompasses social gatherings, community involvement, fund- raisers, and attendance at state-wide conferences.
AACC Student Chapter
The American Association of Christian Counselors is an organization for those interested in becoming Christian Counselors professionally or through pastoral care. Our main goal is to provide learning opportunities for members of the group by having professionals speak of their experiences and through service projects in the community. We are committed to preparing students for further opportunities in the helping field as well as informing them of avenues that are available for further exploration such as job opportunities and graduate school information. This group was established in the fall of 1999, so it is still in its learning and growing stages; however, we are excited about the possibilities of serving the Lord through our education in counseling and pastoral care.
Herodotus Society
We are a group of individuals interested in history and pre-law topics. Established in the fall of 1999, we are just beginning to make plans for what the future holds. Our main purpose is to provide a sense of community and a place for those with interests in history and law to share and fellowship. As the group develops, there are many things we hope to do. We would like to publish an annual history and pre-law journal and become involved in service within the community. We would also like to sponsor displays, bring in speakers, and plan history- related field trips. We are excited for what the future holds and look forward to growing as a group and beginning to realize the dreams we have set before us.
Student Nurses Organization (SNO)
SNO endeavors to provide support to the nursing student body as a self sustaining organization that provides opportunity for socialization, mentoring, and spiritual support; and to aid in the development of the whole person including ones professional role and responsibility for health care of people in all walks of life, and in spiritual development.
SNO works to promote and encourage participation in community affairs and activities towards health care and the resolution of related social issues; to represent nursing students to the consumer, to interdisciplinary activities; to promote and encourage students' participation in student activities, and educational opportunities; to promote and encourage collaborative relationships with nursing and health related organizations.
Annual dues for SNO is $5 for students who are enrolled in the School of Nursing and $2 for students who have declared nursing as their major (pre-nursing).
SNO meets periodically throughout the semester as established by the SNO officers in September and January. Students are notified of meeting dates.
