PDF (Portable Document Format) This type of file is quickly becoming the most common means of publishing documents for internet use. A special program (Adobe Acrobat® Reader®) is required to be able to view this type of file. Many newer computers come pre-installed with this program. DOC (Microsoft Word Document) This type of file is created by Microsoft Word, a member of the Microsoft Office suite. Aside from the PDF the Word Document is probably the second most common type of file, especially on KCU's site. In order to view this file the your computer must already have this program installed, or it must be purchased. TXT (Generic Text File) A TXT file is very similar to a DOC file, but can be viewed on any Windows computer using one of two available programs included with Windows, Notepad and Wordpad. A TXT file performs the same basic function as a DOC file, but is simplified to allow only basic formatting such as; bold, italic, and font selection. |

WMA (Windows Media Audio) A WMA is an audio file designed to be played in Windows Media Player, a program that is included with all installations of Windows operating system. This file type should not require any special download to be played on your computer. |

MP3 An MP3 is another type of audio file that is comparable to the WMA format. This file type can also be played in Windows Media Player, or many other special programs designed to play MP3's. No special download is required to play this file type. |

RM (Real Media) An RM file is an audio or video file, much like WMA, that requires a special player, Real Player. WMV (Windows Media Video) A WMV file is a video file that can be played in Window Media Player. No additional software should be required to play this file if you have Windows Media Player installed. Video files are relatively large in file size if any quality is retained, and so it may take the file a few minutes to download, even over a high-speed connection. Therefore, it is not recommended that dial-up users try to download these files. |
