Congratulations to rookie coach Al Serhal (named Regional Coach of the Year) and 5 All-Region Players

KCU LADY KNIGHTS WIN FIRST EVER SOCCER REGIONAL

It was a wet, cold, muddy day as KCU not only battled Ohio Christian University, but also the elements to bring home their first ever regional title with a final score of 1-0. The field was a mud-bath and as you can tell by the attached picture, the players were caked in mud too by the time the game was over. Of course it was all worth it when, in the second overtime, Jessica Proudfoot received a cross from Kayla Dorsey and hit a left-foot shot into the right corner of the goal. It was pandemonium on the field! The "Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat" was everywhere as KCU players piled on each other in celebration and OCU consoled each other in the loss.

The Lady Knights are now making final arrangements for their trip to Kissimmee FL to compete in the NCCAA Division II National tournament November 12-16.

After the emotional win, the regional banner was presented to the Lady Knights and the All Region team was named. 7 Lady Knights were chosen for the All Region team.

Amanda Chambliss Signing

Before family, teammates, and school administration, Amanda Chambliss of East Carter High School's Lady Raiders signed a Letter of Intent to play soccer for the Kentucky Christian University Lady Knights. The senior mid-fielder helped lead her Lady Raiders to a 14-6 record in the 2009 campaign.

"We are excited to have Amanda join our team," said Coach Al Serhal. "She is a strong player who I think can have an immediate impact on our team in the mid field, either on the offensive or defensive side."

The Lady Knights are coming off a season that saw many firsts. They won their first ever Mid East Region Championship, had a player named Mid East Region Player of the Year (Jessica Proudfoot, Hurricane High School) and made their first ever appearance in the NCCAA Division II National Tournament.

Chambliss joins former Lady Raiders, Ashley Artis and Liz Serhal on the Lady Raider team. Artis was named to the Mid East All-Region Team. "I would like to see this happen more often," said Coach Serhal. "I would like to sign as many Lady Raiders as I can. East has a strong team."

Tia Olson Signing

Coach Serhal signed his first recruit for the 2010 Lady Knights soccer season on November 24th at Belfry High School in Pike Co. KY.  Tia Olson signed her letter of intent in front of school administrators, former coaches and her parents Tom and Tammy Olson.  Tammy is a KCU alum; '94 and Tom is a former Grayson resident.  "Tia will be a great addition to our program". Coach Serhal said.  "She has excellent speed and good soccer skills.  But more importantly, she is a young Lady of Character.".  "She will have an immediate impact on our program as we work toward winning not only at the regional level, but the national level as well".  Coach Serhal looks for Tia to be the first of what he hopes to be a Difference making class of recruits for 2010.

Jessica Proudfoot scored both goals for KCU. Jordan Stevens assisted on both goals. Olivia Katt had 6 saves in the match while registering her 2nd shutout of the season.
  • 09/21/2009 - Lady Knights Soccer Ranked 4th in the nation
Grayson, KY - KCU’s women’s soccer team moved into the 4th position in national rankings in NCCAA Division II after posting impressive wins over divisional rivals Atlanta Christian 3-1 and Johnson Bible college 4-0. The Lady Knights also had good showings against NAIA opponents St. Catherine’s and Midway College in their 2 losses. KCU and Midway were locked in a scoreless tie for the first 70 minutes last week before Midway finally scored off of a rebound. Midway went on to post a 3-0 win. Lady Knights goal keeper, Olivia Katt had 12 saves. “We played very well against a strong NAIA opponent. We had 3 real good opportunities to score, narrowly missing on two Jordan Stevens shots, but were not able to find the back of the net”, coach Serhal said. “The real tragedy of the game is losing our co-captain (Jade Saunders) for the season with a broken leg”.

The Lady Knights have two games this week against Ohio Christian on Tuesday September 22nd (Home) and Tennessee Temple in Chattanooga on Thursday September 24th. Ohio Christian is a regional match.

KCU had 28 shots on goal and found net with 4. ”Shot selection and placement are some things we’ll need to work on this week in practice . . . we passed well as a team and were winning the ball at midfield. It was a terrific team performance”.
