- 04/15/2010 - Five Spring Practices in the Books for the Knights
Grayson, KY - Wednesday's spring practice marked the end of the first 5 opportunities for the 2010 Knights. Coach Zack Moore, entering his 2nd season as head coach, has approximately 60 players going spring drills. This the most players the KCU Football Program (3rd varsity season) has had out for spring practice. This is also the first spring session in which the Knights have had their entire coaching staff; all of which are highlights according to Moore.
"Our numbers are higher than they were this time last year, along with the fact that our coaching staff is full and are all here for spring practice is a huge step in the right direction for our program. Our players are getting more individual instruction, which in my opinion, is the purpose of spring practice. We've made several adjustments to our spring schedule so that we can get a good 2-2 1/2 hour practice in between classes and the cafeteria hours, all of which pose major scheduling difficulties."
Spring practice always brings about some position changes, although Coach Moore says that one switch will stand out to Knights fans. Jordan Moore and Brantley Purcell, have exchanged positions, putting Moore at center and Purcell at guard. These changes, along with 8 newcomers have highlighted new faces at different positions.
"Jordan and Brantley have switched, but all of our lineman know pretty much each position. I do believe this switch will make us better, as does our offensive staff. Our new guys have really meshed well with our upper classmen and there are some names that people will remember."
"Offensively, I believe Jordan Schankweiler will make a huge impact by adding competition and depth to our running back positions. Deonte and David are also doing some nice things and that's all encouraging. Marcus Hicks and Javier Agudelo are working really hard at receiver, and Marcus is a really slippery little guy to try to tackle."
"Defensively, Anthony Neal is giving us some size at tackle and Greg Pollard is doing a really nice job at corner. He may be our best corner after watching today's practice on film."
The Knights will continue with their sixth practice on Saturday at 1:00pm at the KCU Football Practice Facility on the north side of campus.
- 03/26/2010 - 2010 Football Schedule Released
Grayson, KY - The 2010 KCU Football Schedule features 9 Mid South Conference contests and 2 out of conferences games. The schedule includes 6 teams that were ranked in the NAIA top 25 either at the end of the season or sometime during the 2009 season.
"This is the MSC and there isn't ever going to be a year where the schedule isn't difficult. If you want to build a program focused on excellence, then you have to be challenged week in and week out. Our two out of conference games are going to be a great measuring stick to where we are early (Walsh), and how we've progressed and improved later in the year (Southern Virginia). Walsh is a nationally ranked program and we're 0-2 against Southern Virginia who really built some momentum for themselves at the end of the 09 season."
"As we've done in the past, we're going to always focus on what we have to do in order to improve daily, prepare for our opponent, and strive to get the the point where our execution and our effort meet. When that occurs, we will put ourselves in position to be successful. We're going to come to work every day and work primarily on becoming a team that knows how to practice; the games will then take care of themselves." - Head Coach Zack Moore
