Knight's basketball coach Corey Mullins resigns, KCU begins search for replacement

Kentucky Christian University, Grayson, KY is announcing the resignation of head men's basketball coach Corey Mullins. Coach Mullins' resignation will be effective as of July 31st at which time he will assume the women's head coaching position at Covenant College (GA). In a move that will bring him closer to family, Coach Mullins stated, "My wife and I are so grateful to the people of Grayson and the KCU community.  It will be tough to leave these players.  They mean a lot to my family, and I am so proud of each of them.  We are looking forward to this next chapter in our life and an opportunity to move closer to family.  I am confident that the administration of Kentucky Christian will bring in the right leader who will be able to motivate and get the most out of this group of seniors and talented underclassmen.  I am excited to see how this team comes together over the course of the upcoming season."

In Mullins two-year stint with the Knights, he achieved a 36-29 record and the 2009 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) II Mideast Region championship. He placed his mark on the KCU basketball tradition by emphasizing player development, both in skill and more importantly in the Christian values that form the foundation of Kentucky Christian University. KCU athletic director Bruce W. Dixon remarked, "His tenure with the basketball team can be summed up as first class. Corey inherited one of the most tradition rich small college basketball programs in the country and added to its' legacy of excellence. It has been a blessing to have him as part of the KCU family."

  • 02/22/2010 - Knights Finish Regular Season in 1st Place
    Grayson, KY - The Men's Basketball team has finished the Mid East region regular season tied for first place with Ohio Christian University. The tie breaker, head to head point spread, belongs to KCU. The Knights will enter this week's region tournament at Johnson Bible College as the #1 seed.

    The tournament pairings are as follows:

    Thursday Feb 25th

    6:00- #3 Free Will Baptist (TN) vs. #6 Boyce College (KY)
    8:00- #4 The Crown College (TN) vs. #5 Johnson Bible College (TN)

    Friday Feb 26th

    6:00- #2 Ohio Christian University (OH) vs. Free Will/ Boyce winner
    8:00- #1 Kentucky Christian University vs. Crown/ Johnson winner

    Saturday Feb 27th

    1:00- Women's championship #1 KCU vs. #2 OCU
    3:00- Men's Championship

    The Knights finish the Mid East Region season with an overall record of 18-10 and a region record of 9-1. The Knights will finish the regular season on Monday Feb 22nd at home vs. Temple Baptist College.
  • 11/08/2009 - Knights Finish Week 1 with Third Win
    Circleville, OH - The men's basketball program at Kentucky Christian swept the first three games of the 09-10 season with a convincing 67-42 victory over Clark State Community College.

    KCU junior guard Eric McKee scored the first 8 points of the game as the Knights dominated the first half 32-21. Defense was key again, forcing 17 turnovers from Clark State, and limiting them to 33% shooting from the field.

    KCU was led in scoring by Casey Jones with 20 points, and Eric McKee with 18 points.

    The Knights finish the first week with a 3-0 record, while giving up only 58 points per game, and causing 51 turnovers on the defensive end.

    KCU opens up at home this week during the Super 8 Classic, Thursday Nov. 12th.

Coach Corey Mullins

Corey Mullins has been named the new men's basketball coach at Kentucky Christian University. Mullins, 27, comes to KCU after a 1-year stint as the head coach at Boyce College. Prior to Boyce College, Mullins spent 4 seasons as an assistant coach for the women's program at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. Bryan College won 105 games in those 4 seasons and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament 3 times.

Mullins, who will also serve as the Student Activities Director, is a 2003 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. He and his wife Carrie have 1 son, Grady, who was born in January.

Assistant Coach Grady Lowe

Coach Lowe will also enter into his 2nd year as the assistant coach at KCU. As an assistant coach for the 2006-2007 Knights, Lowe helped guide KCU to a 3rd place National finish along with a Mideast Region Championship. Coach Lowe comes to the Knights after a succesful 13 year head coaching career at West Carter High School in Olive Hill, KY.

A well respected coach and individual in the 16th Region and surrounding areas, Grady guides and directs the Knights' post players, spearheads local recruiting, and assists in scouting opponents. Lowe is a graduate of Morehead State University with a bachelor's and master's degree in the field of education.

Grady resides in Olive Hill with his wife Linda.
