On Campus Activities
Life on KCU's campus is anything but dull. Below is a short list of activities that take place on campus throughout the year. Many of the events have links for more information about that event, including details on how to sign up, dates, times, etc.
Student Activities
Student Activities are planned events to give all students an opportunity to get involved and enjoy themselves in an entertaining environment. These events take place during the week as well as on the weekends. They begin as soon as the students arrive on campus in the fall and will be planned throughout the entire school year. Unlike intramurals, these activities are usually non-competitive. These events are planned based on student interest and are often proposed by current students. Student Activity Nights have included: Super Bowl parties, movie nights, bowling, talent shows, and a variety of game nights.
Welcome Weekend
The weekend before classes start is a special time for new students at KCU. Along with registration and moving in to the dorms, this weekend is filled with activities. Students are given important information about the upcoming school year and are introduced to campus life. Activities and events are planned to help ease the transition to KCU and allow students to get to know their classmates.
Faith Promise Week
This week is focused on the priority of world missions and the part that we as individuals and a campus can play in that. The week's events are organized by the GMA (Global Mission Awareness) and highlight the cross-cultural work of KCU students, alumni, and other missionaries throughout the world. A special speaker is brought in to share during the chapel services, The Gathering and at the International Dinner as well as in some classes through the week. After a week of focusing on the importance of our involvement in missions, the Faith Promise pledges are made.
Intramurals
Intramural sports at KCU are for students interested in competing in sports on campus against their peers, faculty, and staff. Intramural events go on throughout the whole school year and are very popular among the student body. Intramural sports include basketball, flag football, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, softball, along with special competitive events. These events are all coed and are rewarded with prizes at the end of each session. This is a great way to get involved in campus life and fuel the competitive fire!
Open Dorms
Three times a semester an open house occurs in the residence halls. Males are allowed to visit female rooms and females are allowed to visit male rooms. This provides an opportunity to see "how the other half lives." It allows for relaxed fellowship and fun for the evening!!
Grounds and Sounds
This is an on campus coffee house. Organized and run by a student committee, Grounds and Sounds takes place about once a month. The McKenzie Student Life Center is transformed as the lights are turned down and decorations are set up. In keeping with the theme, different types of coffee beverages are available. Entertainment consists of various bands and musicians as well as some special open mic nights or programs based on a specific theme.
Blood Drives
The American Red Cross and the Kentucky Blood Center set up on the campus of Kentucky Christian University one time each semester. Coordinated by the Student Services Office, students help work at the registration table, escorting donors and running the canteen. Students, faculty and staff of KCU and members of the community join together to donate blood.
