Professional Experience
Charlie W. Starr has been teaching English and Humanities at Kentucky Christian University since 1995. Before that he spent nine years as a high school teacher. His background includes studies in theology, the literature of Herman Melville, the writings of C. S. Lewis, and film and video production. He has published articles and essays on pop culture, devotional theology, and C. S. Lewis. He is the author of three books: Life in the Spirit: Studies in Romans 1-8; The Heart of Light: A Tale of Solomon Star (science-fiction); and Honest to God: Wrestling Your Way to Intimacy with the Creator. Dr. Starr also writes a monthly column on Christianity and Culture for the Standard Press magazine, The Lookout, and he has recently contributed chapters to pop culture anthologies on Lewis's Narnia books, King Kong, and the X-men comic series. Dr. Starr counts among his academic passions, a strong belief in the importance of teaching film literacy, and an equally strong belief in doing so by teaching students how to make their own movies. Many of these student productions can be viewed at Dr. Starr's website listed below.
