Professional Experience
I began my professional nursing career in the medical-surgical section of Kings Daughter’s Medical Center (Ashland, KY) in the fall of 1997, on the Family-Practice Unit. I spent my first year there learning how to care for patients and their families, as well as how to deal with death, dying and compassionate care. After a year, I started working in the bustling and ever expanding Emergency Department. I learned how to coordinate and prioritize my patient care in the rule of "sickest first". I learned to take care of patients with not only complex physical problems, but behavioral and social problems as well. During my career at KDMC, I became a "teacher" of new nurses-serving as preceptor numerous times. I taught my peers in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. I pursued higher education and earned my MSN intent on becoming a nursing instructor. I have taught at several other facilities, but finally found my home at Kentucky Christian University, beginning this year as full-time faculty in the Yancey School of Nursing. I am proud to say God has led me down this path to provide the best educational experience for the KCU nursing student, and I am happy to serve Him in this capacity, and to be a Christian nurse mentor for my students.
