Course Requirements:
Mission Statement
The Mission of the History/Pre-Law program is to lay a foundation of knowledge which will prepare students for entrance into law school and/or graduate studies in history. This program places special emphasis upon encouraging students to assume positions of Christian leadership in their chosen fields of endeavor.
What course of study will be followed?
No specific course of study is required for those who would desire to enter Law School. Requirements for application to law school are a strong undergraduate record and successful completion of the LSAT (Law School Admissions Test). However, there are courses of study that are very attractive to law schools. Among these are History and Business.
KCU offers each student the opportunity to major in both Bible and History along with a minor in Business and/or other areas which helps to make the student more attractive to many Law Schools.
Graduates are now working in the following areas:
- Participants in major Law Firms
- Private Practice
- Operating successful Business Enterprises
Why does KCU offer this opportunity?
We want to provide young men and women who wish to pursue the law or activities related to history as a vocation to do so with a Christian perspective in their Undergraduate education.
For what does this course of study prepare the student?
- With the Bible major, all students will be equipped to better serve the Lord in their local congregations, as well as make their workplace a place of ministry.
- Those wishing to enter Law School will have Undergraduate course work which is very appealing to Law Schools.
- Those wishing to pursue History as a major without desiring to enter Law School will have many vocational options, among them are:
- Going on to Graduate School to prepare for higher education, teaching and/or research
- Work in Business and/or Government
- Historical archaeology
- Museum related vocations
- Preservation societies
- Archives work
- Library vocations
(These are only a few of the fields that can be pursued.)

Humanities
Course Requirements:
Mission Statement
The mission of the Humanities Program is to empower students for Christian and professional leadership by enabling them to write effectively, think critically, analyze and interpret literary and related texts credibly, bring a sanctified imagination to the understanding of literary and related texts, and successfully pursue graduate studies and/or professions requiring these abilities.
Objectives
The graduate with a degree in Humanities will be able to:
- Apply a variety of interpretive methods to his or her reading of literary texts.
- Successfully pursue graduate studies and/or employment while assuming positions of Christian leadership throughout the world.
- Understand the complexities and nuances of English grammar and language.
- Recognize allusions from a broad base of literary texts.
- Recognize and evaluate key ideas from contemporary literary theory.
- Write effectively for a variety of audiences and purposes.
General Information
For the Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, the major requires 36 semester hours, plus 4 semesters of foreign language courses. For the Bachelor of Science in Humanities, 36 semester hours are required, without the foreign language courses.
Graduation Requirements
- Complete requirements for formal admission into the program.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0.
- Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.4 in the 36 hour English major.
- Successfully complete 132 hours consisting of:
- Core curriculum 30 hours
- Bible and Theology Major 30 hours
- English Major 36 hours
- Minor 18 hours
- General electives (B.S.) or language + 6 cr.
- General electives (B.A.) 18 hours
- Complete the Basic Academic Skills Examination (BASE) during the spring semester of the senior year.
- Complete an exit interview with program director.
